Compassionate Care for English Speakers in the NL

Mindful Path Counseling

"This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice. meet them at the door laughing and invite them in. "

This beautiful poem by Rumi captures how I approach my work with my clients. Within the therapeutic container we will create, there is space to acknowledge and hold all parts of you. I cannot promise that doing this type of deep and honest work will always be easy but I can promise that you will not do it alone. Whatever concerns you bring to our sessions, I will greet with great compassion, respect, and thoughtfulness.

About Renee

Hello! My name is Renee and I have been a therapist for over 15 years. I feel continually grateful to have found a profession that provides so much meaning in my life. It is an incredible gift to witness someone say with true conviction that they love themselves for the first time or to finally achieve a dream that anxiety had previously blocked them from pursuing or to know that their life is not defined by their past trauma.

I am originally from the United States but now live in the Netherlands with my family. Previously, I lived abroad in France as a student, in Chile as an English teacher, and in Mexico as a graduate student intern. These experiences have been the richest ones of my life, challenging my sense of self, exposing me to new ideas, and connecting me with lifelong friends. However, these experiences have not come without their challenges. Navigating different systems, loneliness, parenting in a different cultural context, and feeling misunderstood have been just some of the difficulties I have faced. I am passionate about supporting English speaking immigrants and expats with their unique mental health needs.
